International Iberian
Nanotechnology Laboratory.

Braga, Portugal.

The INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory where the Smart Agora 2019 Conference will be held, was established to foster interdisciplinary research in Nanotechnology and Nanoscience. INL is an Intergovernmental Organisation aiming to attract some of the world’s best scientists and engineers. It is the only nanotechnology research organisation worldwide with an international legal status.

INL offers advanced comprehensive research facilities, where biologists, physicists, materials engineers, chemists, electronic engineers and pharmacists gather from around the world to work together on interdisciplinary projects.

INL was built on an area of land of about 47,000 m2 in Braga, close to the university campus of Gualtar, extending along one of the main city avenues up to the East River, and next to municipal sport and leisure grounds and a residential neighbourhood. It has a built area of about 20,000 m2, comprising advanced special installations and several laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, among which is a class 100 Central Micro and Nanofabrication Clean Room of circa 700 m2. The campus comprises a main scientific building and a social support building that includes a Fitness centre, a Kindergarten and Guest House. Learn more about INL on their website:

This conference is organised by Smart Separations, a UK-based company founded in 2013 with a global and diverse mindset, and a subsidiary established in Portugal in 2018. It has patented an innovative microfiltration technology to produce ceramic filters with controllable micron-sized pores ranging from 1 to 100 µm. Our ambition is to be the world’s leader in microfiltration technology – filling the gap that exists in the market nowadays.

Our mission? “Improve quality of life through innovation”, in the areas of health, the environment and human causes. Recently, Smart Separations has been awarded a Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 2 and this has inspired our team to organise a conference to bring together innovators and businesses that want to improve quality of life through science and technology in the fast-changing world that we live in today.

The ultimate goal is to champion and nurture a community of individuals who use science and technology to innovate and who want to share their challenges and successes with peers and budding entrepreneurs, towards making the World a better place.
